I chose the title because when I think of Youngstown I think about when I was young. Not only when I was young in age but young in thought and feeling.
I previewed Tyler Clark's website re Youngstown Renaissance, I remembered the great Northside. I studied the picture of his home. What a great place for a party.
As a youngster, we walked to the Northside swimming pool from the Eastside, Berkley Avenue. I would dream of those beautiful, I thought, mansions. I would pretend I owned one in particular; at Tod and Fifth.
Nowadays, I could own that house but I probably could buy it cheaper than what the upkeep would be. Roofs, plumbing, new cooper pipes, electrical outlets just to hold all of my gadgets would be the "money pit" everyone tries to avoid. I could buy a new home without the repair routine. But it would be without the glamour and the drama an old house in Y-town's Northside would give.
I am so glad to see the young folks buying and living in Youngstown. If I could, I would. Youngstown was very good to me. I lived in the city and worked in the city. I contributed all I could to the city. Now it's time for others to take over the leadership role. I'm glad to see that the so called community leaders are living in town, not just working in the town. Living in Poland or Canfield, or that ilk, and then patronizing the locals, when interviewed, re the Growth of Youngstown. They seem to know what's good for Youngstown without living in Youngstown.
Sadly, I live in Canfield and not in Youngstown. I will not dare to suggest how to revive the old streets and sidewalks. I will use this site to recall how the streets and sidewalks seem to sizzle when I used them.
